Few topics have generated as much debate and division in the western church over the last 50 years than the topic of spiritual gifts. What are they? How should we practice them today? Should we continue to pursue the miraculous gifts of prophecy, tongues and healing or did they cease with the early church?
And for individual believers there can be confusion as different churches operate in different ways. This can lead us to question our Christian experience – either doubting whether what we experienced was valid; or on the other side, doubting whether we have experienced God at all. It can sometimes feel easier to ignore the issue all together and ‘play it safe’.
When Paul address the Corinthian church on the topic of spiritual gifts he starts by saying – “Now about Spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant” (1 Corinthians 12:1) – so it is important to educate our minds from scripture and hear what the Spirit wants to say to us today; and whilst our God is not a God of disorder (1 Corinthians 14:33), he is also not safe, and following him will mean coming out of our comfort zones.

Spiritual Gifts Test
One way of helping you grow in your gifts is to take a spiritual gifts test. It’s 105 questions and will take between 10 and 20 minutes (depending on your gift…haha!). You can sign up or you can just do it as a guest (then afterwards you can enter an email address to send the results to yourself, or print or save them as a PDF).
And it’s a good website, so do look around and see what else you can learn. At the end of the test you’ll get something that will look like the picture below.
No test like this is perfect, but it gets us thinking and reflecting, so it’s a good place to start.
