We asked some of our musicians to tell us about the worship songs they like and why. In this second post, Samuel talks about being encouraged by You Are My Vision.
The song ‘You Are My Vision’ by Rend Collective is one of my favourites, because it conveys many important biblical truths. Whenever I listen to it during the day I can find at least one statement that encourages me. It reminds me of who God is to me, my father and protector; but also who I am in him, a son of the highest God. Furthermore, the song helps me reflect on the relationship I have with him. He lives in me and we are one, not separate. I can find everything I need in him, since he is the only one who can truly satisfy my soul. But even beyond what I need today or tomorrow, I know that I have an eternal inheritance in him that lasts beyond my time on this earth. Therefore, God is more than a person that I can be in a relationship with – he is my most valuable treasure and hence worth thinking of by day or by night.
I believe that understanding our identity in God is the most fundamental, important, and even powerful aspect of living as a follower of Christ. This is because our actions very much depend on what we believe about ourselves, God, and others. And that’s why this song is so significant. It serves as a continuous reminder of who God is for us and what we have in him.
