Q1. Tell us a bit about yourself
‘Hi, I’m Maffy, short for Matthew, and at 5”5. I’m a small male with a big heart! I’m 28-years-old from a little town called Castlederg in West Tyrone. I’ve recently married my love, Emma, and together we’ve moved into the West Dublin area.I am passionate about Jesus, first and foremost. I am naturally an extrovert, but I also enjoy my own company. I’m a great fan of Manchester United, however, they’ve brought me much misery in recent times. I enjoy sports such as soccer, running, swimming, badminton, kayaking and motocross to name a few. I am a social butterfly and love making friends and investing into other people’s lives. I am convinced I see as much life transformation across a small table with a coffee as I do between the pulpit and pew.’
Q2. How did you become a Christian?
‘My faith in Jesus began when I was a four-year-old and I knew my need for a Saviour. My faith was simple, but sufficient at that stage, and as I’ve got older this faith has developed and become my bedrock and foundation for living. I believe God has called and is equipping me for a life of ministry, which to date, has been a rollercoaster and pleasure to serve in.’
Q3. Why are you doing the CCC apprenticeship?
‘I finished a degree in Computing in 2013 and said I’d never go to college again, yet two years later I found myself signed up to undertake a degree in Applied Theology at IBI. I have just completed this and have loved being trained and equipped to serve the local church and so I have come to see this apprenticeship at CCC as a natural extension and continuation of my learning and calling. I’m excited for the year to come and the relationships that are going to be forged and to see how we, as a community, can bring Jesus to those around us in our everyday ordinary lives.’
