On Sunday 5th October 2025, Christ City Church will officially launch its new North congregation in the suburbs of Glasnevin.
We’ve often spoken about starting a North congregation over the years – so it’s with immense joy to finally be able to do this, as 25+ adults and 16 kids are sent from both our Central & South congregations this autumn.
We will meet each Sunday at 10.30am (come for coffee and pastries at 10.15am) at Lindsay Road National School, in Glasnevin. There’s a great opportunity to invite friends and family along as we begin.
Starting out as a gathering of a few followers of Jesus in a living room in September 2012, Christ City Church’s Central congregation would soon form – meeting in Synge Street, Portobello from 2016. In September 2022 we multiplied our South congregation in Stillorgan. We thank God for all he has done among us so far. There has, however, always been a great need for more gospel-centred, life-giving churches on the northside of this city. Coupled with having a number of individuals and families based in the heart of the northside, there has been a growing hunger and building momentum within us that has led to this moment.
At the heart of the mission of Christ City Church is reaching the least, the last and the lost with the good news of the Gospel of Jesus. One of the aspects by which we do this has been – and will continue to be – through church planting.
C. Peter Wagner, an expert in mission & church planting suggests,
“The single most effective evangelistic methodology under heaven is planting new churches.”
The reason we take church planting so seriously, is not because church planting equates to evangelism (telling people of the good news of Jesus), but instead, offers fresh opportunities in new areas to reach those who ordinarily wouldn’t attend church, while mobilising ourselves to stay sharp and engaged with society in such a way so as to point others to Jesus. You could say church planting keeps us on our toes!
“Church-planting needs to be taken seriously as a response to the fact that a high percentage of the population are not in contact with the church and are unlikely to seek contact with the church. Existing churches have the opportunity and responsibility to reach the minority of the population who even occasionally attend their meetings, but they will struggle to reach the rest. Church-planting is the principal way to reach the majority of the population with the gospel, as the people of God make an impact upon the society in which they are placed.”
So the aim of church planting in our context in Dublin City is not to gather Christians from other churches, but to reach the lost and unchurched for Christ.
According to the census taken in June 2022, Fingal was identified as one of the fastest growing regions in Ireland, and this population growth requires church planting to keep up!
As we begin our Sunday services in October with a sermon series in the gospel of John (chapters 5-8), we will ask the question, ‘Who really is Jesus?’. We want to explore the person and work of Jesus, and consider for ourselves; is he who he says he is, and if so, what does that mean for me and my life?

- A sender – someone who will remain in South/Central to support, strengthen and fill any gaps as we are stretched in this season, or;
- A goer – someone who comes along on this journey to support, strengthen and invest in this small church plant in its infancy – getting stuck in wherever there is a need.
The motivation that lies behind our planting of this third Christ City Church congregation in the heart of north Dublin can be summarised as:
- Discipleship – An ongoing fulfilment of Jesus’ great commission to make disciples (Matthew 28:18-20), who in turn would make disciples – (2 Tim 2:2)
- Mission – An increasing need for more gospel-centred churches in the north of the city to proclaim the good news of Jesus.
- Community – A local church for local people to gather as the family of God to worship together.
Over the coming years in north Dublin we long for God to move in such a way that many hearts and lives will be transformed through the power of the Holy Spirit, having a ripple effect on the fabric of society – spiritually, culturally and socially.
As a church we want to position ourselves to be ready for, and stewards of, a fresh revival – as the Irish could once again, as in Patrick’s day, become the land of saints and scholars.
As Paul wrote in Corinthians 4:15, our desire is that…
‘…the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.’
