There are four things that shape everything we do as a church and guide us to fulfil our vision of making a difference in the city of Dublin, spiritually, culturally and socially. You will find these four values shape our Sunday gatherings and our City Groups.
1. MISSION (OUT)
Jesus said in John 20:21 “as the Father has sent me, I am sending you”.
Mission starts with God coming after us to bring healing and wholeness to our lives. In the same way, through our words and our actions, we are called to bring the love of God to a hurting and restless world.
SUNDAYS - on a Sunday this means that we create an environment where people who don’t normally go to church feel welcome and stimulated. In every part of our service: the songs, the talk, the notices and the prayers, we always try to keep focused on what would most help to include those who are trying out church for the first time.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is a big enough idea to try to get your mind around; we don’t want to add the additional burden of insider language, tasteless music or impenetrable rituals. We try to explain what we’re about to do throughout the service and why we’re doing it.
CITY GROUPS – these groups meet together for bible study, prayer, encouragement and food. Each group is based on a vision to love and serve a part of the city; whether a geographic location or a specific people group.
We want to be a church that is “not for ourselves” but for those who don’t usually go to church and for the blessing and prosperity of Dublin. That is what mission is all about!
2. DISCIPLESHIP (UP)
Jesus said in Matthew 28:20: “go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit”.
Jesus spent the majority of his ministry teaching and sharing his life with a few people who went on to transform the world. Our desire is that through sharing our lives and the gospel with one another, the life of Christ will be formed in each one of us.
SUNDAYS – we will spend time studying the bible to understand who God is and what he wants for our lives and we’ll sing and pray in order to draw our hearts nearer to his. The aim of each Sunday is that each of us is closer to Christ by the end of our gathering.
CITY GROUPS – this is the place where each of us gets to apply the gospel to our hearts so that we are transformed. We want to create communities where people can be challenged and changed by each other, communities where people can work through their joys and sorrows, their doubts and their ambitions together.
3. COMMUNITY (IN)
Jesus said in John 13:34-35 “A new command I give you: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another”.
The New Testament church was not primarily about meetings but about a community who loved, cared for and cherished whoever they are and whatever their background. Jesus in John 13 says that the love we have between us will be the greatest sign of who he is.
SUNDAYS – not only is everyone welcome but we also encourage everyone to serve in one of the teams. This is a great way of building community and contributing to the community. If you’re a visitor, we hope that through visiting us, you will experience the hope, love and joy that comes from a community of people who love Jesus and love each other.
CITY GROUPS – these are the places where you can be known and cared for. You will be able to build deeper friendships and find people who will cry with you, celebrate with you, challenge you and (just) chill out with you.
4. LEADERSHIP (BEYOND)
Paul said in 2 Timothy 2:2: “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others”.
As we have said, Jesus spent the majority of his ministry “investing in a few for the sake of the many” so we want to be training, equipping and sending leaders to pioneer with the love of God into new areas.
SUNDAYS – we are always looking to train up young men and women whom God has given the ability to lead and serve, whether up-front or behind the scenes. If you would like to get involved please contact Steve.
CITY GROUPS – these are the best place for someone in the church to grow in their God-given abilities and to be moulded into a leader. If you have a vision of how you can love and serve a part of our city then please find Steve after the service or for a coffee.
The Catholic Priest, theologian and author Hans Küng put it brilliantly when he said:
“A church which pitches its tents without constantly looking out for new horizons, which does not continually strike camp, is being untrue to its calling… [we must] play down our longing for certainty, accept that which is risky, and live by improvisation and experimentation”.
Our desire is that we might be able raise up leaders in order to start more Sunday Gatherings and City Groups throughout Dublin and Ireland to bring hope and love to others.
